Providing Emergency Shelter for Animals in a Disaster

Volunteer With YSDADA
YSDADA depends solely on volunteers to carry out our programs.
We offer all training for emergency shelter operations for free to our volunteers. Once you are trained, we ask that you be ready to respond if needed to a disaster situation.
In addition to training, we also conduct periodic drills to make sure we exercise our skills.
Persons who don't wish to help with animal sheltering can help us with non-emergency administrative tasks. Some of these duties are performed at our office in Yuba City and others can be done from home. You decide what works for you.
We also post our volunteer opportunities at Volunteer Match and Caring Choices.

Emergency Resources
YSDADA is always updating our Emergency Resource Directory. Our directory consists of businesses, landowners and citizens who can assist us during an emergency. We are currently looking for resources in the following areas of need:
- Businesses or landowners along evacuation routes who would allow us to set up an animal intake area for people fleeing a situation. We would then transport the animals to our emergency shelter.
- Landowners with acreage who could house livestock during a disaster.
- Businesses who would provide us with services, equipment, or supplies during an emergency. Examples are equipment rental companies, veterinarians, pet supplies, etc.

YSDADA maintains two storage facilities with equipment and supplies that we would deploy in an emergency. We are currently seeking donations of:
- Large plastic storage bins
- Buckets and portable troughs for livestock
- Pet feeding and watering bowls
- Wire crates for medium and large sized dogs
- Wire crates for cats and small dogs
